MacOS Catalina and iOS13 new features include Activation Lock to prevent a lost or stolen MacBook or any apple devices from starting up. Apple is expanding Find My iPhone through an app called Find My that will also be available for the Mac. Even when the Mac is offline or sleeping, it will send off a Bluetooth signal that can be detected, so users can locate their devices. Apple’s new Activation Lock makes it so that a thief would not be able to access a stolen Mac.

The new update for Macs are getting activation lock, which lets you send a signal to effectively brick the device after it’s stolen or lost. Deeper and dramatically more capable voice controls Project Catalyst (formerly codenamed “Marzipan”) lets app developers more quickly retune their iPad apps for macOS, using the iOS app’s existing codebase as the foundation.

Activation lock: For on Mac devices with a T2 security chip, you’ll be able to use an authenticator code or device such as an Apple Watch to unlock your device, and keep it secure in case of theft, as thieves will not be able to unlock the device without the proper unlock. “Find My:” An updated version of the Find My iPhone feature will now let users find their misplaced iPhone and Mac devices, even if the device is not currently connected to a network.
New Find My App and Activation Lock will prevent a lost or stolen device
This is done by piggybacking off of other nearby devices, which ping your missing iPhone, iPad, or Mac—sort of like echolocation. While the feature relies on devices being used by other people around you, the entire process in encrypted and anonymous.
